Consultant code (endoscopist)

To enable endoscopic treatment analysis by consultant or nurse endoscopist responsible for the procedure performed. Required for submission to the national oesophago-gastric cancer audit.

This item relates to the consultant endoscopist who has overall endoscopic treatment responsibility for the patient and procedures performed, this may or may not be the same as the consultant (referred to)).

 

Nationally agreed form for consultant code or Independent Nurse. It is the General Medical Council (GMC) code for the Consultant or the GP acting as a Consultant or locum Consultant, which is the unique identifier. The nurse's Registration Number will be used to identify the Independent Nurse.

Date on which endoscopic procedure(s) started

 

Therapeutic procedures required to be able to measure survival time from the start of treatment. To enable the date of first definitive treatment to be recorded. Required for submission to the national oesophago-gastric cancer audit.

The date on which the surgical procedure was performed.

Type of endoscopic procedure

Required for submission to the national oesophago-gastric cancer audit.

The main endoscopic techniques performed as part of the first therapeutic endoscopic procedure.

Permissible values are agreed by the clinical steering groups and conform to the requirements of the reporting output specifications. Currently there is no explicit requirement to map to terminologies or classifications. This will be kept under review.
