Child Measurement Programme Data Requirements |
The following information is required to be collected by all relevant health professionals involved in delivering the Child Measurement Programme (nursing, child health and managerial staff). Further information on the process for completing the Child Measurement Programme for Wales is outlined via the Process Flow Diagram.
These data should be captured in the Child Health System Child Measurement Module. Further information, guidance and standards for collection of Child Measurement Programme Data can be accessed via the Public Health Wales Website: Child Measurement Programme: Training & Resources for Staff.

Height At Exam |
Child height measurement at time of exam in cm to the first decimal place – (e.g.120.4cm). Measurements should not be rounded to the nearest whole or half centimetre.

Child weight measurement at time of exam in kg to the nearest 100 grams - (e.g. 20.6kg). Measurements should be exact & should not be rounded to the nearest whole or half kilogram.

Reason Excluded From Child Measurement Programme |
The reason to exclude the child from the Child Measurement Programme.
•Null - Default (it is expected that majority of children won’t be excluded. Where this is the case this field is left blank on the nurses form) •Opted out of CMP data inclusion (parent has withdrawn child from CMP) •Accurate measurements unobtainable (created to be able to record the measurements of children for whom it is otherwise unreliable to obtain an accurate BMI Centile, such as particular disabilities)
The majority of children will not be excluded, in which case this field will be blank or null.

Reason Not Measured |
The reason why the child on the scheduled list was not measured.
The ‘reason’ is used operationally to correct the cohort accuracy, to reschedule as needed, as well as for reporting.
•Opted out of measuring (will be excluded from appearing on re- appointment forms for Reception Child Measurement Programme) •Uncooperative child (will be included on any re-appointment forms) •Unwell (will be included on any re-appointment forms) •Left school (transfer out procedure will be triggered; child removed from denominator and will not be recalled on future schedules) •Session Cancelled (session will be rearranged & date of exam changed on form) •Absent (will be included on any re-appointment forms)
If a child has been measured, this field should be left blank.

Clothing Type |
Child clothing worn during measurement.
•Light Clothing (the Child Measurement Programme for Wales Standard of either - dress or - skirt/trousers & shirt & Socks on-without sweatshirt/Jumper, shoes) •Underwear Only (Lighter Standard as unlikely to be measured in underwear in UK but has been included to align with the COSI European Surveillance Study) •Gym Clothes (Shorts & T-shirt lighter than standard; not full track suit /sweatshirt) •Heavy Clothes (Heavier than Standard; winter or outdoor clothes or heavier sports kit) •Other (Child wearing items that can’t be removed e.g. Ethnic headwear, or Plaster Cast etc. This may mean that other items of clothing also cannot easily be removed.)
