Details on how to use Patient Reported Outcomes Measures (PROMs) Data Standards for Wales DSCNs:
Data standards exist to define a standard codified format for storage and communication of PROMs data. These have been developed to describe each question, together with a value set for the available answers, as part of a codified specification for each of the PROMs tools that have been validated for use on a national basis through the Welsh Value in Health Centre (WViHC).
Some of these tools are protected by copyright and require a paid licence to implement. Publication of the associated data standards is therefore restricted to ensure that the content can only be utilised by those organisations with a licence. The DSCNs developed to describe these standards are available to those organisations via the Digital Health and Care Wales Data Standards SharePoint site, which is accessible to users on the NHS Wales network only. The content of those DSCNs is not published on the NHS Wales Data Dictionary. Associated implementation documentation is published via the WViHC SharePoint site.
These standards are underpinned by a PROMs Metadata Standard, which describes the additional data elements to be collected alongside the patient responses to enable these records to be processed and made available to clinicians and decision makers. This standard was developed by key representatives across NHS Wales organisations and not bound by any licence, and is therefore published on the NHS Wales Data Dictionary via the link below.
