Psychiatric Patient

 

A psychiatric patient is any patient under the care of a consultant in one of the psychiatric specialties (700 - 715) i.e. mental handicap, mental illness, child and adolescent psychiatric, forensic psychiatric, psychotherapy or old age psychiatry.

Long term patient: patient who has a hospital spell of one year or more, and has spent the majority of that spell under the care of consultants in the psychiatric specialties.
