Patients who attend a ward for nursing care, but whose attendance does not fall into one of the following categories:

Attendance fulfilling the conditions of a ward stay as an inpatient or a day case on that ward i.e. requiring the use of a hospital bed for recovery purposes See Day Case See Inpatient |

b) |
Attendance primarily for the purpose of examination or treatment by a doctor |
Number of ward attendances. Count:

a) |
Each attendance where the same patient makes multiple attendances on separate days (but see b below). |
|
b) |
Only one attendance per day even if the patient attends more than once during the day. |
|
c) |
Each attendance under the specialty or department of the ward on which the patient attended. |
If the ward caters for more than one specialty or department, the patient should be counted under whichever of those specialties is more relevant to the attendance on that occasion.
